Shaarey Ovadia union
What seemed impossible at first slowly became a reality. In 2019, classes for one single student began. There are now 20 children. New children are added every year.
The concept of the synagogue, of the association, has changed. The desire to give children a spiritual center became stronger and stronger. Many parents clearly see the path of their children in a career towards professional life. They overlook the fact that on the one hand everything is in God's hands and on the other hand that our ancestors have already walked this path for more than 3,000 years. And have these not been successful? Haven't you built businesses and started families? It is said that Judaism is a fire that illuminates and warms all the further taken steps. You should trust it.
Because faith is comprehensive and especially for the children. Nowadays parents are often busy with their own problems and don't have enough time for their children. Shaarey Ovadia would like to be a reliable companion here. The doors are always open. After school there is something to eat and drink, children can visit our association at any time and will find love as well as religious guidance. Children need affection and appreciation, and we also convey the feeling of how much fun and joy learning the Torah can bring.
Our association is working to bring our yeshiva together with a public-school concept, a school of commerce. After four years, the students have a commercial degree and can decide whether they want to learn a profession or continue studying the Torah.
Our task is to enable Jewish children, including those who are financially unstable, to receive a school education that is faithful to the Torah. There the history of Judaism should be brought closer as well as the task of learning Torah and Mishna.
Present and Future
We are children of the past looking into the present and the future.
Judaism is just as relevant in the 21st century as it was around 3000 years ago on Mount Sinai. Our gaze is directed towards the future – we see ahead and are moving towards the times. We want to be close to the people, their worries, fears, and everyday life. And form an anchorage for the Jewish faith, which helps lead a happy and meaningful life. Only in this will we find the way of salvation. Another future goal is the expansion of the synagogue. Our community consists of 100 to 120 families, in total there are between 600 and 700 families in Vienna. Since we want to continue to grow and space is limited, we will rebuild and enlarge the synagogue. To offer more space and homeland for everyone who wants to come to us.
